What memberships do I need to fence with UoEFC?

You need University of Exeter Fencing Club membership to join the club's training and activities. You may also need British Fencing membership for certain competitions.

What's the difference between UoEFC membership and British Fencing membership?

UoEFC membership gives you access to the University of Exeter Fencing Club, including training, coaching, socials and club activities.British Fencing membership is separate and is provided by the national governing body for fencing in Great Britain. It may be required for certain competitions, including some BUCS events.

Can I try fencing before joining?

Yes! We encourage students who are interested in fencing to come along and give it a try. Come and see us at our Welcome Week events, where you can meet the club, try fencing and find out more about training. Our introductory sessions are usually free during the first week of university.If you join the University later in the academic year and would like to try a training session before purchasing membership, please get in touch with a member of our committee or email us at fencing.captain@exeter.ac.uk

Not necessarily. You can join UoEFC and take part in club activities without immediately purchasing British Fencing membership, depending on the activity.If you want to compete, you should check the British Fencing and competition membership requirements for the event you are entering.

If you're completely new to fencing, you may be eligible for British Fencing's free Introduction Membership.However, you don't necessarily need a British Fencing membership simply to attend UoEFC beginner training.
